Relay for Life organizational meeting is Oct. 4

The first organizational meeting of the 2008 Cherokee County Relay For Life is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Jacksonville Public Library. The Relay for Life event will be held next spring.

Anyone who is interested in becoming involved in Relay For Life is invited to attend.

Volunteers may be interested in serving on the planning committee, desire to organize a team, or become a corporate sponsor. Whatever the interest, all volunteers are needed.

"Relay For Life 2008 promises to be bigger, better and more exciting than ever before. We need the passion, commitment and excitement that dedicated and like-minded volunteers can bring to this event," Cynthia Kline, chairperson said.

"Whether you are a survivor, caregiver, health-care provider, or just someone who has experienced the devastating effects that cancer has had on loved ones and friends, Relay For Life is an event that will prove a community united can provide the hope that one day a cure will be found for this devastating disease," Ms. Kline said.

The Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in communities all over the nation. Fundraising is accomplished through the underwriting efforts of corporate sponsors, organized teams and by a luminary ceremony.

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem and diminishing suffering from the disease through research, education, advocacy and service.
