NEWS Oct. 13 in Rusk Rusk's annual Pioneer and Heritage Festival is planned for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Jim Hogg City Park. The event is sponsored by the Rusk Chamber of Commerce. Admission is $1 or two cans of food to go to the Rusk Good Samaritan. The day is a time to remember the country where pioneers came to live. Local residents are invited to "spend the day in the country." Booths are available for $30 for a 10 by 10 foot space. There is an additional $25 if the chamber provides a tent. Food booths are $55. The chamber will provide 220 and 110 electricity, but vendor must provide their own adapters. A food permit must be obtained from the Cherokee County Health Department. Vendors should contact Charlotte Sanders at (903) 83-2990. Penny Reynolds is vendor chairman and Connie Brown, events coordinator for the fair. Benefit slated for cancer patient's expenses A jambalaya dinner is planned for noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the First United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Tickets are $5 each. Tickets may be purchased from DeeDee Rigsby at (903) 683-1995. A fireproof gun and money safe will be raffled off on Nov. 3. The safe is 5X3 feet and weighs approximately 70 pounds. It will hold 12 rifles, titles, insurance papers, mad money and other important things. There are two keys, one for the door and one for the safe. Neither will unlock the other. It can be bolted to the wall in a closet or in the living room. Raffle tickets are $1 each. The cancer victim is a 41-year-old man with a wife and two daughters. RHS Class of '62 plans reunion for Oct. 13 The Rusk High School Class of 1962 will meet for a reunion Saturday, Oct. 13 at the home of I.K. and Arlene Frazer.All are invited to attend. The Community Training Night (CTN) is sponsored by Jacksonville High School Department of Career and Technology Education. CTN is held Tuesday nights from 5:30-7:30 p.m. throughout the school year in room 404 of the Career and Technology building on the JHS Campus. There is a $5 registration fee for each course. "The CTN classes are set-up so that participants can choose the training that best fits their needs. ," Mr. Silvertooth said.
