NEWS Band boosters meet Oct. 1 The Rusk High School Band Boosters will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at the junior high band hall. The public is invited to attend the meeting. The band boosters newsletter is on the school's web site at www. ruskisd.net. Memberships are individual, $5; family $10; and businesses from $50 to $100 or whatever is desired. Rusk State Hospital Volunteer Council has recycling program Area residents are asked to take old electronic equipment to the Rusk State Hospital Community Relations office. Needed are old DVD players, movies, games, cell phones, ink cartridges, laptop computers, MP3 player, X-Boxes, Sony Playstations, digital cameras and video cameras, digital picture frames, portable Navigation and GPS devices. These items do not need to be working to be recycled. Alto Alumni reunion slated The Alto High School classes of 1950-54 will gather for a reunion Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Alto First Baptist Church. The meeting is open to all who graduated, those who did not graduate, friends from other classes and family members. All are invited to attend and share memories and fellowship. Those who are planning to attend are asked to call Tommie Jean Hester Anderson at (936) 858-3523 or (903) 658-2073 FEMA's office reopens in Jacksonville The Mobile Disaster Recovery Center, 210 W. Larissa St., Jacksonville has reopened and will remain open through Monday, Oct. 29, to allow local citizens more time to register for disaster assistance. Already 240 residents have registered with FEMA for disaster assistance and FEMA and the State of Texas have mailed $439,552 in checks to county residents in disaster grants. |
