University set to take

on ETBU

Jordan Beard, former Rusk Eagle who played with the 2002-2003 football teams is starting at wide receiver for the Howard Payne University Yellowjackets. Howard Payne University is an NCAA Division III school in the American Southwest Conference.

The Yellowjackets (0-1) will face the East Texas Baptist University Tigers at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 in Marshall.

Eagle cross country teams

competes in Athens

The Rusk Eagle middle and high school cross country teams competed in the Athens Cross Country Meet Saturday. The junior high girls team (Ana Crump, Katelyn Dodd, Brittney Watson, Annie Villecas, Geness Castillo, Destiny Jared and Aston Alexander) placed first.

Watson finished third with a time of 17:37.6, with Dodd and Crump following in fourth and fifth place. Castillo and Villecas finished eighth and ninth respectively.

Varsity boys who finished in the top 20 were Dustin Crosby (ninth) and Caleb Lennard (16th).

None of the girls varsity finished in the top 20. Lisa Frauenberger and Grace Castillo led the Lady Eagles with finishes of 28th and 29th place, respectively.

The Rusk Athletic Booster Club and the RHS cheerleaders are asking the community to wear black to "blackout' the Westwood Panthers Friday, Oct. 5, at Eagle Stadium. Also, there will be a "whiteout" night, Friday, Nov. 9, to "whiteout" Crockett. Blackout and whiteout t-shirts are available for ordering until Sept. 17. Shirts can be ordered from a booster club member or from Austin Bank, Southern Cherokee Federal Credit Union, Texas Tanglers or Flowers by Janae.
