Solutions suggested for school systems' deficits I wonder why our school system can't be fixed. We live in America where we can do anything if we put our minds to the task. I talk to teachers and they say they are overloaded with work. I talk with kids and they say they have too many subjects to study. I believe that to be true on both counts. So what is the problem? It seems that with all the educated people over the school system things have gotten worse instead of better. No sensible solution has been reached and there is a shortage of good, dedicated teachers. When you overload anything, whether it's a wagon or a truck or a human mind, it does not function well. A wagon or truck will break down - a human mind gets stressed. So the solution is to unload the wagon or truck to a more suitable load and cut back on the work load of the human mind. I believed that the school administrators need to take a good look at reality concerning what students need to study and how much time it takes for teachers to get something worth while into the minds of students. We have had great Presidents and other great people with less education that made a mark in this world. They had basic books to study. That is the key here - too much of anything is not good for you, whether it's food or dessert or books. Now-a-days we have too much of everything. There is another problem within the schools that needs to be fixed with common sense and good rules and that is how students and teachers dress and conduct themselves. It seems to me that all schools should have a dress code for the students as well as the teachers along with good manners and good behavior which should never have gone out of style This rule will take the "me-ism" and "self-interest" out of the school house. Teachers should be an example to their students by showing them how they should dress and groom. Kids would feel better about themselves and become better students. I also believe one of the problems with students is that they have too much freedomwithout constructive guidance from parents. Schools are not there to raise kids - they are there to teach kids. Manners, good behavior, good conduct and obeying rules should be the parents' responsibility, not the schools. If parents work with the schools and help put good rules in place for kids they will act and study better. My opinion is to put basic learning back in our schools. Bring back the respect of the teachers over the students and make going to school a pleasant experience like it should be. Then kids will enjoy going to school. Teachers should not get stressed out trying to teach and students should not get stressed trying to learn. |
