Nineteen Nichols Intermediate students who were nominated based on their interest and skill in technology attended the third annual tech camp at Jacksonville High School Career and Technology building June 11-15. Although tech camp was held in June, students were unable to launch their rockets due to rainy weather. Rockets were successfully launched Friday, Sept. 7 with the entire fifth grade in attendance. The 2008 Tech Camp participants will be selected from the current fifth grade class in the spring.
During the week of camp, students enjoyed various activities. They designed logos for t-shirts, assembled different types of rockets and airplanes, studied Newton's Laws of Physics, performed a Pop Can Hero Engine activity, wrote journals everyday and designed parent invitations for their big rocket launchTech camp students said they enjoyed using a variety of technology that they had never used before such as digital cameras and laptops. They also enjoyed assembling the model rockets, airplanes and launching their final rocket.
All the students encourage future Tech Camp nominees to be able to think outside the box and to have fun.
