BY LELAND ACKER

Jim Swink is carried off the field by admirers following one of his many victories as a TCU Horned Frog during the mid 1950s. A new exhibit is open to the public in the lobby at Citizens 1st Bank, featuring photos and video footage.
A new exhibit honoring Jim Swink opened this week in the lobby of Citizens 1st Bank lobby. Following a two-week exhibition in downtown Rusk, the exhibit will move to a permanent location at Rusk High School.

Dr. Swink will attend a reception 4-5:30 p.m. Friday in the lobby of Citizens 1st Bank, and the public is invited.

Known as the "Rusk Rambler," Dr. Swink dazzled TCU football fans in the 1950s with a unique running ability. His knack for evading defenders drew national attention. He was a Heisman Trophy runnerup and was courted by the Chicago Bears.

Dr. Swink's accomplishments went beyond the football field. After college, he went to medical school and became a doctor. He also served in Vietnam, where he was awarded a Purple Heart.

Dr. Swink's achievements were recognized in 2003 when he became the first inductee on the Rusk ISD "Wall of Honor."

The Dr. Jim Swink display will feature action video footage of his athletic career, said Dolores Bryson of Rusk.

"We'll be showing a segment of Doak Walker's 'Legends' program. It will be a three and a half minute loop," she said.

Other items on display will include Dr. Swink's trophies, plaques, footballs, awards and photos.

The display will be shown from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. today through Friday, Sept. 14, at Citizens 1st Bank in Rusk. Refreshments will be served throughout the day and the display will be hosted by fans and friends of Dr. Swink.

Dr. Swink is a 1953 graduate of Rusk High School and now resides in Rusk.
