RUSK LIONS CLUB
Club honors exchange student Aug. 2

Foreign Exchange Student Cecilia Armani from Udine, Italy, received a certificate of appreciation. She was recognized for visiting the Rusk club and sharing information concerning her native country of Italy. She shared a presentation to the club from her hometown Lions Club. She also shared some of the East Texas language she had learned while visiting the area. Appreciation was expressed to Bobby Tosh who not only provides a meeting building for the club, but also made a donation to the club. The donation was greatly needed and appreciated.

The program was presented by Connie Brown from the Rusk Chamber of Commerce and from René Mc- Cracken, extension agent. Ms. Brown provided information on TSR. She discussed Thomas the Tank Engine, which is very popular with all young children. A contract has been signed to bring them to Rusk on Oct. 19-21 and 26-28. She said they were expecting seven to nine thousand to come for the event. Tickets are $18 for ages two and up. Mrs. McCracken spoke on the Pioneer Heritage Festival at Jim Hogg State Park. The Ole Time Country Fair will be on Oct. 12-13. The events will include a trail ride, horse back ride, hayride, quilt, jams and jellies contest and show, gun fights, pioneer demonstrations, clowns, magicians, carnival, project show food, clothing, photography, 4-H and cabriolo cook off. There will be the East Texas Goat Raisers, dog show, parade, Little Miss/Mr. Pioneer Pageant contest, DJ Roy and live country music, Colt Starting and calf roping, demo and stick horse rodeo for five and under. There will be a Calf Scramble for five and over, farmers market and trade depot, horse shoe tournament and mechanical bull.

A new member, Shirley Beauford, was voted into the club.
