Chief appraiser releases certified values for county's taxing entities

Lee Flowers, Cherokee County Appraisal District chief appraiser, has announced certified tax values for county taxing entities.

Property values increased for all county entities except Troup ISD, which showed a drop of $17,197,190 or 3.9 percent from $432,565,343 in 2006 to $415,368,153 in 2007. Troup's ISD rate last year was $1.2850 and this year's effective rate, is $1.3530. Rollback rate is $1.22487. Proposed tax rate is $1.076.

Both the Cherokee County General Fund and Cherokee County Lateral Road Fund increased 7.23 percent. The general fund increased $121,778,867 from $1,688,589,725 to $1,806,862,999. The county lateral road fund increased $120,979,188 from $1,677,374,609 to $1,794,848,204. Last year's rate was 62 cents and the effective rate is 58.92 cents. Rollback rate is 64.2427 cents. Plans are to adopt a 61 cent tax rate.

Jacksonville ISD showed an increase of 9.87 percent or $74,732,527 from $760,711,674 to $832,061,578. The effective tax rate is $1.2981. The district's last year rate was $1.41. Rollback rate is $1.12. The district plans to adopt a $1.12 rate.

The City of Jacksonville values increased 2.79 percent from $500,551,241 to $511,021,355. Last year's tax rate was 59.84 cents and its effective rate for this year is 58.77 cents. Rollback rate is 62.90 cents. Hearing will be held on Sept. 4 and 11 to adopt the same rate as last year, which is 59.84 cents.

Rusk ISD's values increased $34,324,032 or 12.09 percent from $283,963,102 to $318,287,134. Last year's tax rate was $1.4425 and the effective rate is $1.3108. Rollback rate is $1.16327. Plans are to adopt a $1.15750 tax rate.

Values for the City of Rusk showed a 4.13 percent increase or $3,705,189 from $89,618,671 to $93,323,860. Last year's tax rate was 48.96 cents and the effective rate for this year's budget is 47.31 cents. Rollback rate is 51.10 cents. Proposed rate in 48.96 cents, the same as last year.

Alto ISD's values increased 2.07 percent or $2,561,975 from $123,808,781 to $126,370,756. Last year's tax rate was $1.3880 and the effective rate is $1.3734. The rollback rate is $1.094393. Proposed rate for next year is $1.094340.

The City of Alto's values increased 5.60 percent or $1,413,066 from $25,227,097 to $26,640,163. Last year's rate was 30.30 cents. Effective rate for this year is 28.82 and the rollback rate is 31.13. Proposed tax rate is 31 cents. A public hearing is planned for Aug. 23 for the approval of the city budget. The tax rate is expected to be adopted in September.

Values for Wells ISD increased 16.27 percent or $6,199,391 from $38,109,238 to $44,308,629. Last year's tax rate was $1.37 and the effective rate is $1.2355. Rollback rate is $1.040050. The proposed district tax rate is $1.04.

The City of Wells values increased 6.42 percent or $693,123 from $10,801,252 to $11,494,375. Last year's tax rate was 52.70 cents and the effective rate is 49.75 cents. The rollback rate is 53.73 cents. The proposed tax rate is 50 cents.

New Summerfield ISD values increased 4.87 percent or $1,665,179 from $34,209,463 to $35,874,642. Last year's tax rate was $1.3430 and the effective rate is $1.2835. The new rate will be $1.04.
