Cherokee County schools begin classes on Aug. 27 All Cherokee County students will begin classes Aug. 27, somewhat later than in previous years. There will be no Labor Day holiday for Rusk and Alto students and Justice of the Peace Teresa Phifer said, "Truancy rules will be enforced." Students at Jacksonville, New Summerfield and Wells will have a holiday on Sept. 3. Teachers for the Rusk ISD reported for in-service Aug. 21. New school employees reported earlier in the month. Registration is underway this week at Rusk High School and Junior High School. Meet the teacher day will be from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 23 at the intermediate, elementary and primary schools. Alto new teachers reported Aug. 20 and substitute teacher at 1 p.m. Aug. 20. Returning teachers begin in-service on Aug. 21. Dates for Alto ISD students to remember include 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, third and fourth grade students report for orientation in the school cafeteria. Students will bring supplies and pick up registration packets at a meet the teacher event from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24. Alto ISD classes begin Monday, Aug. 27 with school hours changed to 7:45 a.m.- 3:35 p.m. School buses will pick students up 10 minutes earlier than last year. Pre-K, kindergarten, first and second grades will have orientation from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28 in the cafeteria. New Summerfield's new teachers reported Aug. 13 and 14. Regular teachers will have flex days and may substitute three days for Aug. 15-17 for the first three days in June 2008. All teachers will report on Aug. 21. New teachers at Jacksonville ISD will report for in-service Aug. 16-17. Other teachers begin in-service on Aug. 20. Wells in-service begins Aug. 21 for returning teachers. New teachers will report on Aug. 20. Meet the teacher will be Aug. 23. |
