KENNETH EARL ACKER Kenneth Earl Acker, 70, of Jacksonville died Aug. 7 at the Hospice of East Texas facility in Tyler. He was born Nov. 18, 1936, in Maydelle. He attended school from grade school to high school in Maydelle and later attended Stephen F. Austin University for two years. The funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home, with the Rev. George Folmar and the Rev. Ken McEarchern officiating. Burial was in Providence Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Ruby Acker; and brothers, Dean Acker and C. Nathan Acker. Mr. Acker served more than 35 years as an East Texas law enforcement officer, working for Jacksonville Police Department, Polk County Sheriff 's Department and Cherokee County Sheriff's Department. He married Marva Ault April 13, 1957, and they had celebrated 50 years together on April 13, 2007. Survivors included his wife, Marva Acker of Jacksonville, brother and sister-in-law, Harold Sr. and Sylvia Acker of Jacksonville, a sister-inlaw, Linda Acker of Jacksonville; son, Douglas Acker of Jacksonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Mitchell Prasatik of Grapeland and Debbie and Bill Price of Bonham; grandchildren, Kasey Bobbitt and husband, Ryan Bobbitt of Grapeland, Mandy Prasatik and Tanner Prasatik of Grapeland, great-grandchildren, Justin Bobbitt and Jason Bobbitt, of Grapeland; nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. Pallbearers were Harold Acker Jr., Marvin Acker, Nathan Acker Jr., Leland Acker, J.R. Ault and J. T. Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Texas law enforcement officers. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler 75701. |
