U.S. Rep. Hensarling will speak at 11:15 a.m.

U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling will be in Rusk at 11:15 a.m. today in the County Courtroom in the courthouse to discuss earmark spending and fiscal accountability in the federal government.

He will also detail his support of the line-item veto (H.R. 689), a proposal that would give the president the opportunity to strike earmarks and spending requests from bills without jeopardizing the main purpose of the legislation.

Blood drive planned Friday at Lexington Place

The Carter Blood Care Stewart Center will host a blood drive from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday at Lexington Place, 330 Bagley Rd.. in Rusk.

Donors will receive a free "premium grade donor" t-shirt and will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gasoline gift card. A grand prize winner from eligible entries will receive a $250 gasoline gift card.

Meet the Eagles scheduled for Monday

The annual "Meet the Eagles" event will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Eagle Field. Fans are invited to show up, meet this year's fall athletes and show support for Eagle athletics.

Swink memorabilia goes on display Sept. 7

Rusk's only "All American" football star, Dr. Jim Swink, will be honored with a display at Citizens 1st Bank in Rusk for two weeks, starting Sept. 7.
