THIS WEEK Historical society offers definitive history book at discount A 748-page book which represents the definitive story of Cherokee County is on sale for a limited time. Cherokee County History, which retails for $75, is reduced to $60 through Oct. 31 when the sale ends. If the book is mailed, postage is extra. The Cherokee County Historical Commission is sponsoring the sale. In Jacksonville, stop by the Cherokee County Historical Society's third floor office at Capital One Bank, 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday or call (903) 683-4057. In Rusk copies can purchased at the Heritage Center museum from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. Sundays at 208 Henderson St. The Heritage Center also has copies of "Images of America: Cherokee County" for $20 and "New Birmingham...As It Is, 1891" for $10. Blood drive planned Thursday at ETMC A blood drive sponsored by ETMC and Stewart Blood Center will be held at ETMC Rusk from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9. Donors will receive a free tshirt. ETMC Rusk is located on U.S. Highway 69 north of Rusk. Donors must bring a driver's license and eat food before donating. County commissioners may lower taxes Cherokee County Commissioners expect to lower taxes, but have not determined what the tax rate will be for the 2007- 08 county budget. Linda Beard, tax assessor-collector, is still working on the tax base. |
