Eddie D. Harris "Oh Yeah" Shoot-out set for Aug. 3-4

The Eddie D. Harris "Oh Yeah" Shoot-out basketball tournament is slated for Aug. 3-4 in Rusk. For information or to volunteer, call Krystal Ward-Carter at (903) 372-6880, or e-mail krystalward@hotmail.com.

The tournament is named for Eddie D. Harris, a long time East Texas resident who volunteered his time to local youth by coaching basketball and baseball, and served as a mentor. Mr. Harris worked at Rusk State Hospital for 11 years, before Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a progressive scarring disease of the lungs left him unable to work. He passed away July 5, 2003, at the age of 39.

The basketball tournament is sponsored by the Mt. Pleasant C.M.E. Church youth department and raises money for the youth and scholarship fund.

Current scholarship recipients are: Cody Glenn (Nebraska), Armistia Sanders (Tyler Junior College), Sharicka Jackson (TJC) and Crystal Henderson (North Texas).
