State championship team 'The Storm,' to be honored downtown

The Rusk Storm brought home a state championship title last weekend, and the 6- 8-year-olds will be honored at 12 noon Thursday on the Rusk downtown square. The boys' machine-pitch team captured the state title Friday with a 12-4 defeat of the Moody Raiders.

Regional mobility group adds 6 new counties

Six counties were added to the North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority (NET RMA) recently. They include Bowie, Cass, Panola, Titus, Van Zandt and Wood counties.

They join Cherokee, Gregg, Smith, Rusk, Harrison and Upshur counties in making up the 12-county partnership.

The action was approved by the Texas Transportation Commission, marking the second time in as many years that the NET RMA has grown; the NET RMA is the only RMA in the state that has added new counties outside its original founding sponsors.

The board is chaired by Jeff Austin III.

Church plans school clothes give-away

Rusk Church of Christ will have its school clothes giveaway day from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 11. Clothes are available in various sizes for school age children. Sizes range from approximately two years to adult.

The church is also still taking donations. Donors are asked to make sure items are clean, usable and suitable for school. Persons can drop items off at the church office from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
