Rusk police investigate burglaries

Police are uncertain whether two recent burglaries in downtown Rusk are related.

Thieves appeared to be after cash, said Rusk Assistant Police Chief Roy Cavazoz.

The first burglary happened at Flowers 'N Things between 5 p.m. June 21 and 9:15 a.m. June 22, said Mr. Cavazoz.

"They took money," Mr. Cavazoz said.

Steve Wimer of Flowers 'N Things said the suspect broke in more than once and stole money.

Jan Hardy said between $500 and $600 was taken. Mrs. Hardy said they think they know who broke into the flower shop.

Mr. Cavazoz said he could not discuss that investigation.

He said police do not know if that burglary is tied to the break-in at the Sweet Shoppe Rock on North Henderson St. in Rusk.

"I don't think they are (related)," Mr. Cavazoz said.

In the burglary of the Sweet Shoppe Rock, a suspect stole a small amount of cash, reported to be close to $4.

Mrs. Hardy and Mr. Wimer said they have reinforced the doors so that the suspect cannot repeat the crime.
