Auditions set for musical

What is Seussical? The Cherokee Civic Theatre has announced auditions for its annual fall musical, "Seussical," based on the works of Dr. Seuss.

Auditions are planned at the theater for 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29 and 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, July 30-31 or by calling (903) 683-2131 for an appointment.

Director Karen Hendley invites all who love to sing and want to try their hand at stage acting to audition.

There are parts for all singers, dancers and actors, and no experience is necessary.

Very strong singers are needed for the major roles to be played by older teens or adults. These include "The Cat in the Hat" (male or female), "Horton the Elephant," "Gertrude McFuzz," "Mayzie La Bird," "Sour Kangaroo" and "JoJo" to be played by a boy age 10-15.

Numerous parts are available for children, ages eight and older, and teenagersadults of all ages.

"This is a perfect opportunity for families to participate together," Mrs. Hendley said.

"The story weaves together Seuss' most famous tales and characters in unexpected ways. Many of these characters have never met one another before, but in the course of the show, some will fall in love, some will have desperate adventures and some will save the world.

"And they'll travel everywhere from the Jungle of Nool to McElligott's Pool to Palm Beach.

"Through the pure power of imagination, Dr. Seuss communicates his belief in helping a friend, in not giving up and in keeping a promise," Mrs. Hendley said..

Call Karen Hendley at (903) 683-2131 for further information or to schedule an alternate audition date.
