ERNEST H. MARTIN Funeral for Ernest H. Martin, 83, of Rusk, was at 2 p.m. Friday in the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Joe Ballard officiating. A graveside service with military rites was at 1 p.m. Monday at Houston National Cemetery. Mr. Martin died July 11. He was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Rusk to the late Johnston and Annie Berry Martin. He had been a Rusk resident for 50 years and a member of Sardis Baptist Church. He was a transportation foreman for Comal County, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of The American Legion, and member of Disabled American Veterans. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was in the 49th tank destroyer division in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a camper and 42 player. Preceding him in death were his wife Virginia M. Martin on May 10, 1993; sister, Mary Bell Selman; and brother, Raymond Martin. Survivors are two sons, Howard Rudd and Fred Rudd, both of Lincoln, Calif.; a daughter, Connie Nannen of Dallas; two stepdaughters, Susan Bailey and Georgia Houghton, both of Houston; sister, Lillian Corley of Alto; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend Ann Spurgeon of Rusk. |
