Rusk basketball team gains steam in summer league

If returning most of last year's players while the rest of District 20-AAA suffers huge graduation losses was not enough to make Eagle fans excited about the next basketball season, the Eagle's showing in the UT-Tyler summer league should.

"The Rusk summer league team is doing well," said Rusk High School Head Coach Tracy Kincade. "They are 3- 1 with the one loss being to Bullard by one point."

The summer league team is coached by former Eagle Jordan Beard. Team members are J.J. Session, Horrace Lewis, Demarcus Skinner, Chance Cleaver, Taj Cleaver, John David Beard, Bobby McDuff, Kalen Skinner and Chase Anderson.

Rusk will play Troup at 5 p.m. and Brownsboro at 8 p.m. on July 17, Gladewater at 9 p.m. on July 24 and Tyler Lee at 5 p.m. on July 31. All games will be played at the University of Texas at Tyler.

The Eagles went 5-9 in district last season, but only lost three players to graduation.
