Reader is on-edge with new dollar coin
ROSE MARY JONES

I am old enough now not to be too surprised at what I see or hear. However something came to my attention several weeks ago that really surprised me. I keep up with the news pretty regularly and was not aware of this bit of information.

One of my sons called and said he had one of the new dollar coins. He asked my grandson if he could find "In God we trust" on it. He could not find it. My son finally showed my grandson that it was stamped on the rim of the coin where you could hardly read or hardly notice it. I was not aware that a dollar coin was going to be circulated. They made one years ago, but the public found it too heavy to carry.

I also received literature about buying The United States Presidents Coin Collections, which had "In God we trust" stamped on the edge of the gold coins. I then started to wonder if our paper money would be changed and where would our heritage of "In God we trust" be placed?

I guess I really feel disappointed that our money is being changed and our famous motto is being presented this way.

It stood for centuries and we carried it proudly around with us in our pockets and purses without thinking that one day it would not be on the face of our coins.

Maybe this is a test to see if the public notices this change or if they even care. Maybe they want to see if people would rather collect a different coin for their collection or stand up and disapprove of this dollar coin without our motto being placed in the right place... on the face of the coin where people can see and read it.

My opinion is that I am an American and proud of it. I do not think it is right to change our heritage and values.

When you start doing that we become weak and start believing in anything. I for one will not accept this coin which has no place in my purse.
