DOROTHY (DOTTIE) WELKER ACKER Funeral for Dorothy (Dottie) Welker Acker, 92, of Jacksonville, was at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin King and the Rev. Dr. Faulk Landrum officiating. A private burial followed. Mrs. Acker died July 2. One of 11 children she was born March 18, 1915, in Pittsburgh, Pa. to the late Alvin R. Welker and Minnie Koontz Welker. She met A.G. Acker Jr., while both were serving in the Navy during World War II. They married in California July 24, 1945, almost 63 years ago. After the war they moved to Jacksonville, where she was a Girl Scout leader and member of the First United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School and vacation Bible school. She belonged to the Alpha Omega Sunday School Class, "20-40" Supper Club, and the Cherokee County Genealogy Society. Survivors are her husband A.G. Acker, Jr.; children and spouses, Godbey and Martha Acker of Jacksonville and Donna Acker and Tom Hillin of Houston; five grandchildren and spouses, Tamara Acker and Ronald May of Tyler, Bry and Jennifer Acker of Arlington, Amanda Acker and John Grissom of Bentonville, Ark., Thomas Greg and Suzanne Hillin of Ventura, Calif., Chris and Mavis Hillin of West Hollywood, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Riley May, Brayden Acker and Avery Grissom; a brother and sister-in-law Homer and Anna Mae Welker; a sister, Norma Smith; and a sister-in-law, Freida Acker. Memorials may be made to the First UMC, 1031 SE Loop 456, Jacksonville 75766. |
