Interment scheduled for CSS Alabama sailor

Memorial services for an unknown Confederate crew member of the CSS Alabama will be conducted on July 26 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Mobile, Ala. by the Sons of the Confederate Veterans (SCV). The Wake will be on July 28 in the home of Admiral Raphael Semmes on Government St. in Mobile, Ala. The funeral procession will follow.

The unknown sailor died when the CSS Alabama was sank during a sea battle on June 19, 1864, off the coast of Cherbourg, France. His remains were recovered during a salvage operation and were conveyed to the SCV, Raphael Semmes Camp 11, through the CSS Alabama Association.
