Relay for Life expresses gratitude to the community

I am writing on behalf of the organizing committee to express our thanks for your Cancer Fact Sign sponsorship of the 2007 Cherokee County Relay for Life. We are so proud of the response from everyone and hope we can carry our momentum forward to make each year more successful than the last.

We are proud to tell you that we raised more than $84,000 this year. This is a remarkable achievement and evidence of the growth of our relay. We realize there are many worthy causes out there asking for your help, but we hope we can count on your continued support of the Cherokee County Relay for Life.

Relay for Life is truly becoming a county-wide, community event. It is wonderful to see so many businesses and individuals willing to sponsor the Cherokee County Relay for Life - raising money to help in the fight against cancer. The cure is out there and together we can make a difference. This year we had 28 teams and 360 participants come together to celebrate the lives of more than 137 survivors while honoring and remembering more than 850 victims of cancer through our luminaria ceremony.

The luminaria ceremony this year was very moving - a bagpiper played Amazing Grace and the names of luminaria recipients scrolled on a screen. The weather cooperated and the candles stayed lit for the whole ceremony. This year we introduced the Flame of Faith, a torch purchased in memory or in honor of an individual. The torches burned all night.

This year we were glad to welcome several new teams to the relay and happy to see many teams from previous years still going strong. Although, there were fewer teams, they raised more money. We are always looking for new teams. If you or your company would be interested in forming a team next year, please let us know and we will send you information.

If you do not receive an official receipt from the American Cancer Society, please let us know and we will follow-up on obtaining the form for you.
