North to Alaska There are only four more weeks of anticipation for Trey Carter, seventh grader at Alto Middle School, until he leaves Dallas-Ft. Worth on his way to Alaska. Trey traveled last summer to Australia with People to People student ambassadors and was chosen this summer to travel to Alaska for two weeks. There will be close to 48 student ambassadors from East Texas and Pennsylvania traveling together. The East Texas leaders are David and Karen Stanley of Carthage. These two are special people and very devoted to teaching the student ambassadors six to eight months before they leave and also while they are gone. Their journey begins way before they leave, with reports, trivia questions and much more about their destination. Delegation meetings are monthly in different chosen areas. Trey is a straight-A student, was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society in May, places in all UIL competitions, in the gifted and talented classes and was chosen to be Who's Who Among Outstanding Students in America in May. Trey was also the highest ranking in math and science in the sixth grade this past school year. Trey, among several others, received commendations in math and reading in their TAKS testing. He is not all about books and learning. He enjoys sports, looking for native arrowheads, hunting, fishing, riding four-wheelers and music. He attends church and thanks God for his abilities. Trey is the son of Malei Carter, grandson of J.C. and Cynthia Carroll, great-grandson of Bobby Sowell, Lavern Grogan and the late Wilson Grogan, all of Alto, and Pat Emmons of Fordyce, Ark. Trey and the entire family would like to say thank you for your support and contributions to make his dreams and education a success. We would also like to say thank you in advance for your prayers as these young people travel to God's wonderful creations. |
