Steve Slover receives

professional designation

Steve Slover of the Rusk Edward Jones office has achieved the professional designation of Accredited Asset Management Specialist.

Mr. Slover successfully completed the Accredited Asset Management Specialist, or AAMS, Professional Education Program from the Denverbased College for Financial Planning. Those who complete the program, pass a final exam and sign a code of ethics and disclosure form, earn the AAMS designation.

Edward Jones provides financial services for individual investors in the United States and, through its affiliates, in Canada and the United Kingdom. The firm's 10,000-plus financial advisors work directly with more than 7 million clients to understand their personal goals.

Employment opportunities available for senior citizens

Persons 55 or over on limited income and who are having difficulty finding a job can apply with Experience Works for training. Experience Works can offer temporary part-time employment while persons seek permanent employment and there is no charge for this service.

2 area students graduate

from Texas A&M University

Diplomas were awarded to 5,417 Texas A&M University graduates during spring commencement ceremonies.

Among those recognized were: Alicia Rose Johnson from Alto, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology and Benjamin Jerome Yates from Douglass, who received a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree.

SFA tells dean's list

Cherokee County students named to the dean's list at Stephen F. Austin State University include Crystal Leigh Brown from Rusk, majoring in comunication disorders; and Stevie Gail Malar, majoring in psychology and Amy Kathryn White majoring in nursing from Alto.

To be named to the dean's list a student must be enrolled in 12 or more semester hours and maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5.

Battle of the Bands

planned for June 30

Rusk Battle of the Bands will be Saturday, June 30, at the Cherokee Civic Theatre in Rusk. Entry fee is $75. Prizes are $300 for first place; $200 for second; and $100 for third. Any type of music is allowed. For more information, contact Steven Crosby at (903) 284-8888.

Jacksonville chamber

employs Peggy Renfro

The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce has announced the employment of Peggy Renfro as president at the monthly board of directors meeting in June.

Mrs. Renfro has been with the chamber office since August 1981.

George Baker, chairman, said "Peggy has 20 plus years in the chamber business and knows what is needed to be done and how to make it happen. We feel like Peggy will be aggressive in promoting Jacksonville and sustaining the current membership and well as acquiring new memberships and taking the chamber to new levels."

When Darrell Prcin was hired as the Jacksonville economic development president in March, Mrs. Renfro said she made the decision to apply for the position as the chamber president. "With Darrell's experience in economic development and my background with the chamber, I believe we can work together for the betterment of Jacksonville."

Mrs. Renfro has been married for 27 years to husband, Mitch, and has lived in Jacksonville most of her life. Together they have two children, Mandy and Cary.
