Pool grand opening is Saturday
Splash Day to feature live entertainment, a volleyball tournament and live radio broadcast
BY LELAND ACKER

The forecast calls for a 100 percent chance of water fun as the second annual Splash Day at the Rusk City Pool is set for Friday. Marks Lanham, pool operator, said this year's event looks to be an even bigger splash than last year.

In celebration of Splash Day, Mr. Lanham said the pool will open at 10 a.m. Friday. Robert Gonzalez and Tara Crosby, hosts of the popular "Talk Time" and "Country Corner" shows, will be broadcasting live on KWRW 97.7 FM from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The live broadcast will feature fun and free hot dogs with paid admission.

"We're going to give away four tickets to Schlitterbahn," Mr. Gonzalez said.

Mr. Lanham said the fun will continue on through the evening.

"The volleyball tournament will get started at 6 p.m.," he said. "Teams can register at 6 p.m. The entry fee is $30."

Mr. Lanham said the volleyball tournament will be a double-elimination bracket and prizes will be awarded to the winners.

"The payback will depend on the number of teams in the tournament," Mr. Lanham said.

As the gladiators of the beach volleyball court go to battle, the local band, The Papers, will take the stage.

"The Papers will play from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.," Mr. Lanham said. "They are very popular locally. They're a great band. They played our Labor Day event last year."

Splash Day begins at 10 a.m. Friday, with KWRW-FM broadcasting their festivities at 11 a.m.

Regular pool hours are 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The pool is open from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission fee is $2 per person.

The pool can be booked for private parties any time outside of the pool's regular hours.

Swimming lessons are also planned for June at the city pool. For more information call Mr. Lanham at the city pool at (903) 683-2715, or at home (903) 683-3434.
