Planning & Zoning Commission to consider travel trailer park

The Rusk Planning & Zoning Commission will hear a zoning request Tuesday for this mobile home park on Main Street.
Members of the Rusk Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at city hall. The meeting to consider a request from Kevin R. Bowden and his father, W.R. Bowden, is open and a number of Rusk citizens are expected to attend.

The Bowdens have requested that zoning for property they own on North Main Street be changed to general business to allow them to operate a park for recreational vehicles. Currently the city does not have zoning that allows the location of motorhomes within the city limits.

Persons parking motorhomes are required to obtain a special use permit to locate the travel trailer for a short time.

However, the Bowdens have rented space for six motorhomes on the property.

The Bowden property, located at the site of the old Sugar House on Main Street, is located in two zoning areas. The portion of the property situated at the front is zoned residential one family and the back portion is zoned mobile home park.

However the entire lot is only 2.25 acres. Property used as a mobile home park must be at least 10 acres in size.

Currently the city has a suit filed in the 2nd Judicial District Court against the father and son. A hearing on that case has been scheduled for July 12.

The Bowdens are represented by Steve Guy. The city's attorney is Eric Penn.

Members of the planning and zoning commission are Mary Madden, J.C. Netters, Donald Foreman, Betty Young and Mike Crysup.
