Popular 'kids ride free' program returns to Texas State Railroad As schools dismiss for the summer vacation, many parents may seek ways to entertain their children. In light of the arrival of summer, the Texas State Railroad announces its annual "Kids Ride Free" promotion, beginning Friday, June 1. "The Kids Ride Free program begins with our first runs in June and goes all the way through August," said John Garbutt of the Texas State Railroad. "Kids 12 years old and under ride free. We allow five free children per paying adult." The program allows one paying adult to take up to five children under the age of 12 on the train at no additional charge. "This has made it easier than ever," Mr. Garbutt said. "With gas prices going up, this is a pretty good deal. You can ride on the train and save on the kids' tickets." Mr. Garbutt said everything is clicking right along at the Texas State Railroad. He said ridership remains strong. "We're doing well," he said. "Nothing has fallen off. We're doing just fine." Those interested in booking tickets for the Texas State Railroad may do so by calling (903) 683-2561, or toll free at (800) 442-8951. Adult tickets are $20 for round-trip, $27 for round-trip in a climate controlled car. One-way adult tickets are $14 and $20 for round-trip. | |||||
