RHS seniors receive $220,000 plus in scholarships
Rusk High School graduating seniors received in excess of $220,000 at the annual scholarship banquet May 10 at the junior high cafeteria.

Class valedictorian Jay- Anna Magruder received a total of $66,500. Miss Magruder received $1,000 from the Dallas Scottish Rite; $3,500 per year for a total of $14,000 from the East Texas Communities Foundation; $500, Euclid Masonic Lodge; $500 from Rusk Ministerial Alliance; $1,000 from Temple Inland Foundation, $12,000 from University of Houston valedictorian award; $1,000, Rusk Alumni Association; $500, Southern Cherokee Federal Credit Union; $12,000, TEA Tuition Exemption; and $24,000 ($6,000 per year), University of Houston.
Elizabeth Guinn, salutatorian, received $31,500, which included Mack Philbrick Memorial Scholarship, $1,000; Rusk Alumni Assoc., $1,000; Rusk Kiwanis Club, $500; University of Houston leadership scholarship, $1,000 per year; University of Houston, $6,000 per year for a total of $24,000 University of Houston, Conrad N. Hilton College Scholarship, $1,000.

Anna Martinez received Rusk Lions Club, $500 and TJC Top 10 Scholarship, $2,000; Ashley Alexander, Holly Jennings Memorial Scholarship, $500; Autumn Vaught, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, $1,000.
Ben Thompson received $3,400, which includes Doug and Sally Jordan Memorial Scholarship, $750; Rusk High School band, $200; Rusk Athletic Booster Club, $1,000; Rusk Lions Club, $500; Rusk Ministerial Alliance, $500 and Rusk Rotary Club, $500.
Brenda Hernandez, received $2,500 Tyler Junior College/Citizens 1st Bank. Brent Jones received a total of $3,500 in scholarships including the Cherokee County Rural Electric Scholarship for $1,000; Euclid Masonic Lodge, $500; Rusk Alumni Assn., $1,000; Rusk Lions Club, $500; and Travis McCain Memorial/All State Athletic, $500.

Chris Walley received $1,500 in scholarships including JPF Land services, $1,000 and Rusk Baseball/Softball Assn., $500. Cierra Ballard received a Rusk High School Alumni Assn. Scholarship for $1,000.
Cord Stover received $800 in scholarships including $300 from Jerry Smith Memorial Scholarship and $500 from Texas National Bank. Cory McDuff received a $200 Rusk High School band scholarship. Cortland Jones received $4,000 including $1,000 from Cherokee County Rural Electric Co-Op scholarship and $3,000 from East Texas Telephone Exchange. Daniel Kennedy received $500 from the Roy Kennedy Jr. Memorial/ Dairymen Association scholarship. Eddie Harris received $600 from the Loretta Colston Stewart Memorial Scholarship and $2,000 from the Texas Publishers Association. Erin Thrash received the $500 Texas National Bank Scholarship. Heather Davis received room and board at Kilgore College for a cheerleading scholarship. Jessica Lankford received $2,000 from the Tyler Junior College Top 10 scholarship.

Katie Folkes received the Cherokee County Retired School Personnel Scholarship for $500 and $200 from the Rusk High School band. Kayla Morris was granted a total of $4,600 including $1,000 from East Texas Communities Foundation, $600 from Loretta Colston Stewart Memorial Scholarship, $500 from the Rusk Rotary Club and $2,500 from Tyler Junior College/ Citizens 1st Bank. Kyle Garner's scholarships totaled $3,500 and included $1,000 from the Rusk High School Alumni Assn. and $2,500 from TJC/Citizens 1st Bank. Laura McClosky received $500 from the Career Women's Civic Club and $2,000 from the Tyler Junior College Dean's Scholarship. Lauren Johnson received $3,500, which included $500 from Austin Bank, $1,000 from Cherokee County Rural Electric Co-op and $2,000 from the Tyler Junior College Top 10. Matthew Wilcox received $12,000 ($3,000 per year) from the Nucor Scholarship.
