NEWS Stars basketball camp slated for June Coach Kincade's Future Stars Basketball Summer Camp for boys in grades 4-8 will be from 9 a.m. to noon June 18-21. Cost is $30 for the first child and $20 for each additional child. The K-3rd grade camp will be from 9 a.m. to noon June 25-28. Cost is the same. Men's basketball league to start up in Rusk Rusk Varsity Basketball Coach Tracy Kincade is starting a men's basketball league for ages 18 and over. Games will be played on Sundays in the Rusk High School Gymnasium. The cost is $100 per team. Teams are limited to a maximum of 10 players on the roster. No roster changes after week two of the season. The league will start when four teams have registered. For more information, contact Coach Kincade at (903) 262-4865. Rusk Eagle baseball/ softball camp slated The Rusk Eagle baseball/softball camp has been scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon, June 4-8 at Rusk High School. Emphasis will be placed on hitting, throwing and running.Radar guns will be used to assess throwing speed and campers will be able to see themselves on video to make any corrections needed to become a better player. Grapeland promotes Faigle to head football coach The Grapeland ISD board of trustees voted to promote Curt Faigle to the position of head football coach and athletic director during a meeting on May 10. He has served the district for two seasons as assistant coach. Faigle will succeed his former boss, Kris Iske, who resigned March 28 to accept the head football coach position at Scurry-Rosser. Davises host daylilly event The public is invited to view the daylily collection of Wayne and Kathie Davis and attend a Hemerocallis Clinic Saturday, May 26, at their home in the Sardis community. Joe Daniel, Cherokee County extension horticulturist, will discuss the propagating and using daylilies. The Davis garden is located at 8217 FM 1857 not far from the Sardis church. Mr. Daniel will also present an update on quick acting fire ant baits. For information contact the extension office at (903) 683-5416. Birthday party planned Jonell Spedale will celebrate her 80th birthday from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at her home in Gallatin. She was born June 5, 1927, to Elmer J. and Lena May Williamson.
