MARY SNEED

MARY SNEED
Graveside service for Mary Everett Sneed, 87, of Lufkin, will be at 6 p.m. June 16 at Mount Hope Cemetery at Wells. Mrs. Sneed died May 14. She was born Aug. 29, 1919, in Ponta. She a t t e n d e d Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, where she met her husband, C.W. Sneed Jr. of Wells.

They married May 1, 1937, and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary May 1. Mrs. Sneed graduated from Stephen F. Austin, in Nacogdoches with a degree in education. She taught at Wells Elementary School in the 1940s and at Hudson Elementary School and Mable Melere Elementary School in the 1950s. She moved to Dallas in 1959, where she continued her education in library science, and became a librarian at Blair Elementary School in Dallas ISD. She taught fifth grade at Seagoville Elementary School before retiring in 1978. Mr. and Mrs. Sneed were active members of the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, and later transferred their membership to Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas. Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, two sisters, her son, C.W. "Bud" Sneed III, a niece, Marcy Scott, and a nephew, Roland Burrows.

Survivors are her husband, C.W. Sneed, Jr. of Pinecrest Retirement Center in Lufkin; four daughters and sons-inlaw, Joan and Wayne Johnson of Lufkin, Mary Jane and Bill Miles of San Antonio, Sally Ann and Robert Miller of Dallas, and Sammie Susan and Harry Moore of Richardson; 15 grandchildren; 21 greatgrandchildren; a brother and sister in law, James and Joan Everett, of Jacksonville; a niece, Sharon Burrows, of Rockbridge Baths, Va.; a brother in law, John Sneed of Wells; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
