The seventh nationally ranked drag racer will graduate from Rusk High School May 25. Bryce Isaacs will walk across the stage, but not before he competes in the Lucas Oil Series competition at the Cherokee County Motorsports Park May 18-20 in Rusk.

Bryce is ranked seventh in Division 4, a division which features thousands of racers from all over the United States. He said the rankings are done by a points system, where points are earned by racing, competing and defeating your opponents.

Bryce is getting set to compete in the national finals in Dallas this year.

"He has been racing since he was eight years old," said Susie Isaacs, Bryce's mother. "He began in the Junior Division, then moved up to the big cars when he was 15."

Mrs. Isaacs said Bryce's father, Johnny Isaacs, also drag races. Mr. Isaacs began racing as a teenager.

"It's been great," she said. "It's a family thing. We've been doing this for years, and it's great to have a teenager involved (in an activity that's interesting to him)."

Bryce said his future plans are pretty simple.

"It's all about drag racing," he said. "I'll finish this season, go to college next year and continue racing."

Bryce said he is undecided on his major.

The Lucas Oil Series will come to Cherokee County Motorsports Park May 18-20. Mrs. Isaacs said she expects over 500 cars from all over the U.S. to compete in this weekend's event.

"Not every track gets a Lucas Oil event," she said. "You have to be up to standard."

Bryce explained that to host a Lucas Oil event, a track has to meet a safety standard, which includes having the right guard walls. Mrs. Isaacs said the facilities have to be good as well.

The Lucas Oil Series will begin on May 18 at the Cherokee County Motorsports Park in Rusk.
