Alto council bids farewell Thanks, appreciation and business were on the agenda of the Alto City Council during their regular meeting on Monday. Police Chief Charles Barron thanked Mayor Debbie White and the outgoing city council members for their service to the city. Mayor White thanked the city employees for their hard work. Outgoing Councilman Glen Willhite thanked Mayor White for working for the betterment of the city. The council then voted to remove Mayor White and outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Kenneth Brethouwer from the city's bank accounts. Incoming Mayor Carey Palmer was added to the accounts. The city voted to go out for bids for a contract with a waste services company for garbage service in the city. Mayor White announced that Wells Siding and Metal Roofing had made a bid of $20,750 to replace the roof of the old city hall building, and would add gutters for just $500 more. "This is not in the budget for this year. You might want to look into this when you put together next year's budget," she said. The council voted to require new employees to undergo criminal history background checks and to allow Municipal Judge R. C. Christensen to apply for a grant to upgrade the court's software. The council will swear in the newly elected council members at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 at City Hall. A special meeting has been called to follow the swearing-in ceremony |
