Raiborn elected mayor
"I would like to thank everyone who came out to vote. Every vote counted. The only real losers of this or any election are those who take their liberties for granted and don't bother to vote. I'm looking forward to working with our city manager and council. I think ANGELA RAIBORN they are a great group of people who are dedicated to serving our town. I couldn't think of a better place to live, work and raise a family. I am proud to have the privilege to serve as mayor of Rusk," Ms. Raiborn said. Ms. McCarty thanked all who voted and supported her in this election and the past city election. "I appreciate the honor of serving you as mayor. I have worked hard and have seen our city make several accomplishments. Thank you to those who have supported me so well." Both Kris Morgan, District 1, and Walter Session, District 2, had no opposition. Three incumbents were returned to the Rusk ISD board of trustees. They are board president Mike Ross; vicepresident David Fulton; and member Roy Cavazoz. Other candidates were Oliver Sturns and Karen LaVergne. Jacksonville Jacksonville Mayor Dr. Robert Haberle was returned to office by more than a two to one vote over challenger Jon Hargett. Jim Tarrant Jr. was elected to Place 1 on the Jacksonville School Board. Winning the Place 2 seat was Pat Mc- Cown. Other candidates for Place 1 were Robert Douglas and James Hugghins. Other candidates for Place 2 were Kenneth Smith, Don Gateley and Sarah Jane Robinson. Alto The Alto city election was cancelled because there were no contested races. Elected to the Alto ISD board were two new members, Jay Jones with 188 votes and Lee Pearman with 149 votes. Bob Grammer, Linda Brooks, Wayne Bertrand and Robert Hicks were unsuccessful in their bid for election. All other city and school elections were cancelled because of no opposition. Cherokee County voters approved a constitutional amendment to increase the senior citizens and handicapped person's tax discount by a vote of 92 percent. Vote in Cherokee County was 1,499 for and 106 against. |
