County commissioners change meeting date because of holiday
BY GLORIA JENNINGS

Cherokee County Commissioners made plans Monday morning to meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, rather than the regular meeting time on May 28. The meeting date was changed because the Memorial Day holiday falls on May 28.

During the Monday morning meeting commissioners approved a request from the Rusk Chamber of Commerce to use the courthouse lawn for the annual Fair on the Square on Saturday, May 26. However, the courthouse will not be open on that day.

Commissioners approved laying of utility lines in Precincts 2, 3 and 4. Commission for Reserve Deputy Sheriff George N. Lindsey was approved at the meeting. A bid from Holt Cat for $15,000 through Buy Board for the purchase of a boom for a frontend loader was approved at the meeting for Precinct 4.

Commissioners authorized themselves to appoint members to the Jury of View June 6 meeting. The Jury of View will hear testimony concerning adding and deleting county roads to the Cherokee County map.

Commissioner Byron Underwood will discuss with the county attorney a request for extending/opening CR 4723 in Precinct 4. A barbed wire fence was placed across the road at the entrance and the owner of property connecting the road has removed his fences and cattle are running on the roadway, Mr. Underwood said.

Linda Beard, tax assessorcollector, was authorized to refund a tax payment of more than $500.

Purchase of sand from Randy Powell for $1 per yard and clay from Duane Waldrup for $1 per yard was approved for Precinct 4.

Items approved from the consent agenda included the auditor's monthly report, Constable Precinct 4 monthly report, license and weight monthly report and Lakeway subdivision revision 2 plat only.

Attending the meeting were Judge Chris Davis; Commissioners Mary Gregg, Kevin Pierce, Moody Glass III and Underwood; County Clerk Laverne Lusk and County Auditor L.H. Crockett.
