      The Rusk City Pool will open June 2. Hours are 12:30-7:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 12:30-5:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 12:30-6:30 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is $2 per person.

City votes to continue legal action to remove trailer park

     Mary M. Beard of Tyler and James G. Thompson Jr. of Rusk will be married Saturday, June 2, at the Glenwood Church of Christ in Tyler. Miss Beard is the daughter of Linda and Mike Beard of Jacksonville. Mr. Thompson is the son of Sharon and Jimmy Thompson of Rusk.

      Imogene and Darwin Robinson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary May 12. Mr. Robinson married Imogene Kimbrell on May 12, 1947 in Jacksonville. He retired from Texaco Oil in Port Arthur in 1982. They are members of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church.

      J.D. and Hazel Jones Wright celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary May 4. They were married in a home ceremony on May 4, 1947, in Port Arthur. The Wrights have two children, Deena Wright Wyatt and her husband, Bill; Mitchell Wright and his wife, Jerry.

Walker Cemetery gets historical marker
      The Cherokee County Historical Commission will dedicate an official Historic Texas Cemetery Medallion at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the Walker's Chapel Cemetery. This will be the first marker dedicated under the new Texas Historical Commission Cemetery Marker Program.

State track meet
     Julian Willis hurls a discus during the Class A state track meet in Austin Friday. Willis hurled the discus 142'7" to finish 8th in the state. The Alto girls 400-meter relay team also competed in the state track meet, placing 7th with a time of 51.32.
