Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 3406 helps veterans, families As our fiscal year comes to an end, the members of the Ladies Auxiliary to Cherokee County Memorial VFW Post 3406 would like to thank everyone in the community, as well as VFW comrades and sisters, who have made this year a success. Some of our programs are Americanism, Voice of Democracy, Legislative, Patriot's Pen, Patriotic Art and Political Action Committee. These have allowed local students, members of the community and organization members to express their views and feelings on important issues. We have helped raise $3 million for Cancer Aid and Research and Cancer Grants to help our Sisters with cancer. Donations have been sent to help the VFW National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, Mich. We have contributed to educational scholarships for both students and active military personnel. In addition, donations were sent to our VA Hospitals to help purchase special items needed and provide parties for the residents. Our Operation Uplink program has provided free phone cards to our active military personnel and our hospitalized veterans. We have encouraged students to help support our active troops with cards, letters and with "goody boxes." The newest program, "Unmet Needs," is assisting deployed military personnel's families with unexpected expenditures. We cannot forget a special thanks to each of our members who have paid their dues and remained a continuous member of our organization. It is the voices of our members that our Legislators hear about important veterans' issues. There is no way to measure the value that membership has upon the functions of the auxiliary. As the new fiscal year begins one of our important goals will be the recruiting of new members. We are asking ladies to contact us who may be eligible in any of the following ways. Do you have a family member who have served on foreign soil or in foreign waters? We invite you to help us make a difference in the lives of our veterans and their families as well as in our community. Our Auxiliary can be contacted by calling Kim Nickle at (903) 683-5985. |
