Mission Tejas to hold

Folk Festival this

weekend

The Mission Tejas Folk Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12 at the Mission Tejas State Historic Site in Weches.

Presenters and historical interpreters will demonstrate the early pioneer Texas lifestyle. Re-enactments will be made of a Texas army camp, a Civil War camp, a Buffalo Soldiers' camp, an Indian Wars camp, a oneroom school classroom session and a cowboy town.

Activities include basket weaving, crocheting, woodworking with antique tools, flint knapping, blacksmithing, soap making and dutch oven cooking.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch. Mission Tejas State Historic Site is located 12 miles west of Alto on State Highway 21. Interested persons can call (936) 687-2394.

U.S. Highway 84 Road Trip will offer antiques,

collectables for sale

The annual U.S. Highway 84 Palestine to Rusk Trail Sale is planned all day Friday and Saturday, May 11-12.

Antiques and collectables will be offered at roadside sales. Miscellaneous treasures will be available to all buyers.

Persons who have antiques, collectables and crafts are invited to set up along the way. Those, who need a place to sell or additional information, may call Wanda Ezell at (903) 795-3631 or Mike Payne at (903) 312-1054.

Letter carriers' food

drive is Saturday

The 15th annual letter carriers food drive is Saturday, May 12. Local postal patrons are asked to place food in a sack by their mailboxes. Persons having post office boxes may leave their food items in a hamper in the post office lobby.

Postal employees will deliver the food to the Good Samaritan in Rusk.

The letter carrier food drive is held at the beginning of the summer to help with stocking shelves at the Good Samaritan.

Spotlight is planned

May 12 at auditorium

The annual Rusk High School Spotlight is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12 at the school auditorium. The event is sponsored by Senior Finale Inc. Admission is $5 per person. Mr. and Miss RHS will be named, as well as class favorites. Other favorites will be recognized.
