Ruskite enters Miss Texas USA pageant

in Laredo pageant

Melissa Bergemann, 20- year-old daughter of Ana and William Bergemann of Rusk, will represent Rusk in the Miss Texas USA pageant this summer in Laredo. The pageant will be televised Sunday, July 1.

The contestants will have eight days in Laredo consisting of personal interviews, wardrobe fittings and rehearsals.

Judging will be based on poise, personality, intelligence and beauty. In addition to the title other awards will be presented for most photogenic, swimsuit and Miss Congeniality. Contestants will be responsible for the costs of attending the pageant, including transportation, pageant fees and most of their wardrobes.

Miss Bergemann is a junior at the University of North Texas in Denton, where she is in the fashion design program and the school of visual arts. She is an honor student and has been on both the President's and Dean's honor rolls. Recently she was awarded the Neiman Marcus Scholarship for fashion design.

She is a 2005 Rusk High School top 10 graduate. She was drum major, majorette and member of the high school band and the national honor society. She was a three time state medalist in twirling and three times school duchess.

Fees into the pageant total $1,295. The entry fee covers eight days' expenses of hotel and meal accommodations in Laredo and some required wardrobe items. Each contestant will provide her own competition evening gown and interview attire. Contestants are allowed to have sponsors to help defray these expenses.
