IRBY MCKENZIE HILLIARD

IRBY HILLIARD
Funeral for Irby McKenzie Hilliard of Jacksonville was at 10 a.m. April 25, at Autry Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Webb officiating.

Mrs. Hilliard was born in Van Zandt County July 15, 1908. She graduated from Grand Saline High School, and entered what was then North Texas Teachers' College with a teaching career in mind. That plan changed when she met and married George M. Hilliard Jr., who had interest in the study of medicine which he completed in 1935. The family moved to Jacksonville in 1945 after Dr. Hilliard had served four years military duty.

Her continued interest in the medical profession was evident by her many years of work in the Cherokee County Medical Auxiliary and her volunteer work at Nan Travis Memorial Hospital, now East Texas Medical Center.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law Dr. George and Carmen Hilliard of Longview, James R. (Jim) and Beth Hilliard of Dallas; a daughter, Sally Hilliard Shank of Dallas; grandchildren, Julie and John Webster of Atlanta, Ga., Dr. George Hilliard IV & wife Jill of Memphis, Tenn., Amanda Hilliard of Fort Worth, Steve Shank and wife Monica of Dallas, Brooke and Mike Mercer of Victoria, Dr. Stuart Hilliard and wife Amy of Portland, Ore., Ree and Monte Lowery of Seabrook, John Goldberg and wife Jennifer of Dallas and 13 great-grandchildren.
