Rusk Eagles qualify for regionals The Rusk Eagle track team will send five athletes to the Region III-3A track meet in Humble Friday and Saturday. Headed to regionals are Bobby McDuff, J.J. Session, Jacob Hailey, Quinn Anthony and Koid Dyess. McDuff qualified for the regional meet by placing 3rd in district in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 11.24. Session won 3rd in long jump with a jump of 20' 10 3/4". He will also compete in the 300- meter hurdles after finishing 3rd in district with a time of 42.61. Anthony will compete in shot put as his 43' 6" throw was enough to earn him 3rd in district. Dyess will be an alternate to regional with a discus throw of 126' 6". Hailey will also be an alternate to regionals in the 300-meter hurdles event after finishing 4th in district with a time of 43.78. Head Coach Thomas Guidry said the relay teams ran their best times of the year, but did not qualify in any of the finals. The 400-meter relay team of John Michael Jackson, Horrace Lewis, Session and McDuff placed 5th with a time of 43.82. The same runners comprised the 800-meter team which placed 5th with a time of 1:33.42. The future looks bright "We had 30 guys participating in some aspect of track this year and that is up from last year," Coach Guidry said. "We are still fairly young and looking forward to next year. Track is vital to having a great all-round (athletic) program." Coach Guidry expressed his thanks to the parents and boosters who helped put on track meets and supported the program by encouraging participation. |
