12-year-old runaway in custody after fencing stolen property for drugs
BY LELAND ACKER

Rusk police allege a 12-year old runaway is responsible for a rash of burglaries which took place last week. The residence of Dr. Anthony Holcomb, along with two other residences on Henderson and Sycamore streets in Rusk were burglarized, as well as one vehicle in Rusk.

"We had been looking for (the suspect) for a week," said Rusk Assistant Police Chief Roy Cavazoz. "He had run away from home, so we were looking for him as a runaway."

Mr. Cavazoz said Rusk police suspected he might be behind the burglaries. He said police officers chased him Friday, then found the suspect at an apartment complex on Saturday and arrested him.

Mr. Cavazoz said the suspect had spent the stolen money and traded off some of the stolen merchandise for drugs. Some property was recovered, Mr. Cavazoz said.

Chris Holcomb, wife of Dr. Holcomb, praised the Rusk Police Department for their professionalism.

"The police arrived and made CSI look minor," she said. "They were professional, had the equipment they needed and began going thoroughly step-by-step through our home."
