Rusk cancels sewer project The City of Rusk will discontinue its participation in a Texas Community development Program contract for sewer improvements on Crockett Street. The council met at 1 p.m. Monday to vote on the project. The city's action came after an e-mail was received from engineer Tracy Hicks that prices for supplies were going up. Diann Brown of Gary Traylor and Associates notified the city that another environment assessment is being required on the project. This means that cost of the project was going to be increased at least $250,000. The Texas Community Development grant is for $250,000. The city has $493,000 set aside as its portion of the match for the project. "The city's total share in the project could go up as much as $750,000," City Manager Mike Murray said. "Gary Traylor told us that we will not have any problems if we vote to discontinue this project," Mayor Suzann McCarty said. In another matter the council voted to change the city's child care center ordinance to bring the city's requirement in line with state requirements. Currently the city's requirements are stricter than the state requirement. Attending the meeting were Mayor McCarty; Councilmembers Kris Morgan, Walter Session, Don Jones, Donald Woodard and Sam Florian; City Manager Murray; and City Secretary Fran Wendeborn. |
