Alto teams pillage Wells
BY LELAND ACKER STAFF WRITER

The first year of the battle for southern Cherokee County swung in the direction of the Alto Yellowjackets this year as the Jackets defeated the Wells Pirates 23-1 in district play Friday.

Colton Crisp was the winning pitcher for the Jackets with 11 strike-outs. Crisp was also perfect in four trips to the plate. Bud Tyler was Crisp's courtesy runner, who scored two runs.

Fielding problems plagued the Pirates as several Alto base runners got on base as a result of "pass balls," situations where the catcher does not catch the third strike.

Lead hitters for Alto were: Tarlandus Mitchell (4-5, one double, one triple and a home run, three runs scored), Clint Dover (4-5, two doubles and three runs scored), Jared Moore (4-5, four scores), Clint Pierce (3-3, three runs scored), Clayton Scott (2-3, one run scored), Cory Davis (2-4, one run scored), and Lance Low (2-4, one run scored).

Lead batters for the Wells Pirates were: Justin Lester (2-3), Dustin Rash (2-3), Dakota Jackson (1-1), Dakota Grayson (1-1, one score), Daniel Trapp (1-1) and Ben Carver.

The Lady Jacket softball team defeated the Wells Lady Pirates by a score of 18-0 in three innings. The Lady Jackets (9-0) wrap up district play at 1 p.m. Saturday in Cushing against the Lady Bearkats.
