Alto teams defeat Martinsville Pirates The Alto Lady Jackets showed why they are working toward their tenth consecutive district title by defeating Martinsvillle 7-1 Friday in Alto. The win propels the Lady Jackets to a 9-0 district record. Alto pitcher Heaven Liles threw 14 strike outs and walked 10 batters. Liles had to battle out of two situations where the bases were loaded. Martinsville threatened early by loading the bases on a series of walked batters in the 1st inning. The uprising was halted when 3rd baseman Margo Kahla caught a foul ball for an out and Liles threw a strike out and fielded a grounder, making the throw to 1st. Martinsville would threaten again in the 6th by loading the bases, but Liles threw two strike outs and Erica Blakemore fielded a grounder to right field. Martinsville's sole score of the game came in the top of the 2nd. Sherenza Green hit a single in the 3rd which batted in Lexie Sessions and set up Abby Scott for another score. Sessions and Scott were both 2-3, with two scores each. Other lead hitters for Alto were Amber Morrison (2-3, a double and one score), Kahla, (1-3, a double and one score) and Molly Pearman (1-3, one score). The Alto Yellowjackets baseball team beat Martinsville 6-3. Colton Crisp was the winning pitcher with Tarlandus Mitchell adding two innings of pitching. Crisp hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the 6th to give Alto the lead. Alto is in playoff contention. |
