Commissioners seek new grant
Commissioners discuss plans to bring county road map up-to-date
BY GLORIA JENNINGS STAFF WRITER

Approximately 30 Cherokee County residents met with Bob Bass of the Austin Law Firm of Allison & Bass in the county courtroom April 4 to discuss bringing the county road map up to date.

Mr. Bass explained to those attending the meeting that the Texas Legislature passed a law in 2003 that counties must determine status of roads on the map.

The meeting was held in preparation of cleaning up the county map, Judge Chris Davis said.

Mr. Bass presented the history of work being done on this issue. He explained that a few roads had been left off the maps. Also, he said, "Some roads are actually drive-ways and no one but the property owner uses them. These roads will be eliminated from the map."

A jury of view will be established to meet on June 6. Each commissioner and Judge Davis will appoint two persons to this jury. Then, five of the 10 appointees will be chosen. Evidence of roads being added to the map and roads remaining on the map will be presented to that jury of view.
