Couple killed in rollover wreck

A one-vehicle accident on FM 241 claimed the life of an Alto couple over the weekend. Jimmy Lee Campbell, 58, and Joanne Long Campbell, 65, both of Alto, were pronounced dead at the scene by Cherokee County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Brenda Dominy.

The accident took place on FM 241, approximately 1/10 of a mile west of U.S. 69, at 9 p.m. Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Campbell were east bound on FM 241 in their 2002 Chevy pickup when the accident happened.

Trooper Justin Stanley of the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the driver traveled into the south bar ditch, overcorrected to the left, causing a skid into the north bar ditch. The vehicle struck an embankment with the top of the vehicle during its roll into the creek.
