Lifeguard, water safety training scheduled It is time to consider getting lifeguard training and/or water safety instructor training completed prior to the swimming season. The Smith County Chapter of the American Red Cross serves Smith, Henderson, Cherokee and Wood counties and has a number of lifeguard instructors ready to teach individuals. Tyler Junior College will hold two 40-hour American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor courses with the first one scheduled March 24 - April 26 and a second course May 21- 25. Interested persons may call TJC at (903) 510-2900 to sign up for these classes. The Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Center will have swimming classes during the months of June and July. Dates and times of classes offered will be posted at a future date. Also, the Smith County Chapter, American Red Cross and the City of Tyler will host Free Learn To Swim classes during the summer months of June and July for all ages.
