18-year-old dies in 1-car accident

Randall Scott (Scotty) McDaniel, 18, of Jacksonville died Saturday night in a one-vehicle accident on FM 2138 at Maydelle.

He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Charlotte Clements, 18, of Rusk.

Miss Clements was wearing a seatbelt. Mr. McDaniel did not have a seat belt on.

Miss Clements and Mr. McDaniel were traveling north at 9 p.m. Saturday when they met a car with bright lights. The headlights of the approaching vehicle apparently blinded Miss Clements and she ran off the road and overturned in a creek. Her vehicle was totaled.

Vera Foreman, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, pronounced Mr. McDaniel dead at the scene.

Miss Clements was not injured.

Department of Public Safety records identified Mr. McDaniel as a Palestine resident, but actually he was living in Jacksonville.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Tom Bledsoe was the investigating officer.
