BY LOURAISEAL MCDONALD SPECIAL CONTRIBUTOR

Regular exercise can improve everyone's health condition. A recent national study showed walking 30 minutes four to five times a week can lead to a seven percent loss of body weight and significantly reduced chances of developing diabetes. To help Cherokee County citizens get started and establish a regular fitness routine, Cherokee Family and Consumer Sciences Committee will implement Walk Across Texas (WAT). Walk Across Texas is an eight week fitness program designed for individuals and teams. The major goal of WAT is for everyone to increase their physical activity. Participants are not limited to walking. Running, aerobics, gardening and dances are a few examples

Prizes will be awarded to an individual and team who accumulates the most miles, oldest walker and youngest walker by May 31. WAT begins Sunday, March 25, and ends Saturday, May 19. For more information, contact Louraiseal McDonald, County Extension Agent at (903)683-5416, (903)683-1827(fax),
